Fiber Optic Internet
Up until a few years ago, Optimum was running fiber optic cable in some parts of Fairfield County. Here’s how to find out if fiber optic internet service is available to you:
Call Optimum. Unfortunately many customer service reps don’t know about fiber optic service so you’ll have to be persistent.
Check on the web. Use a browser that’s never been used to sign into your Optimum account. If you don’t, you may not see new the right offer.

Fiber optic internet is fast and reliable. It’s more stable than Optimum’s cable internet service – no speed fluctuations and outages during the day. I’ve had zero issues since fiber service was installed at our house two years ago. It truly is next generation internet service.
And here’s the best part: installation is free and your monthly bill will most likely stay the same or even go down.
There are several things unique to fiber optic service that need to be considered:
Fiber optic modem: Your new modem will likely be installed in the basement near your electric panel. If your cable modem is in the kitchen, family room or office, you’ll need to reconfigure your WiFi equipment.
Home phone and alarm: These connections will change as well.
Optimum TV service: You’ll get new WiFi-enabled cable boxes. These are great in concept, but sometimes don’t work correctly.
Phone number and email addresses: Optimum can move these to your new account if you ask them to.
