Optimum/Altice reduced internet speeds

In July 2021, upload speeds for some cable internet plans were cut from 35 Mbps to as slow as 5 Mbps.

This change applies to new customers and existing customers who make changes to their service. Existing customers who don’t change their service will not be affected – at least for now.

  • Download speeds stayed the same, but upload speeds decreased for most cable internet plans (see table below for details)

  • Customers with fiber optic internet service were not impacted

  • Current customers who don’t make future changes to their service will not be impacted

What you can/should do about this:

  • Consider switching to GoNetspeed, a new fiber optic internet provider currently serving parts of Fairfield. They are expanding service to other towns in Fairfield County. Click here to see if GoNetspeed is available on your street.

  • Consider changing to Optimum’s fiber optic internet service. It’s not available everywhere, but you can call Optimum to find out if it’s available for you. Click here to learn more.

Here’s Optimum’s web page with price information.
